What This Is
Stochastic Sandbox is an independent blog and resource hub focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning. It covers the technical side of working with large language models: local inference, open-source tooling, research papers, hardware, prompting, and the rapidly shifting model landscape.
The site is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and covers the local AI scene alongside the broader global developments.
What We Cover
The blog is organized into recurring series:
- The Daily Signal Daily
15 links worth your time, pulled from 23 RSS feeds each morning.
- Deep Dives Ad-hoc
Long-form technical explorations. One topic, covered end to end.
- LLM Encyclopedia Weekly
A living reference of models, pricing, benchmarks, and trends.
- Paper of the Week Weekly
One research paper, broken down for people who build things.
- Library of the Week Weekly
One open-source tool you should know about.
- The Prompt Lab Ad-hoc
Prompting techniques, experiments, and before/after comparisons.
- The Benchmark Ad-hoc
One LLM benchmark explained for people who build with models.
- The Stack Biweekly
AI and dev tooling stack roundups.
- Builders Spotlight Ad-hoc
OSS project profiles — the design decisions, the real-world impact.
- Office Hours Ad-hoc
One question from the trenches, one opinionated answer.
- This Week in SF AI Weekly
What's happening in Bay Area AI this week.
Beyond the blog, the site also aggregates resources for the broader AI community:
- Perspectives — Curated takes on notable posts from X, LinkedIn, and elsewhere in the AI discourse.
- Events — Live calendar of Bay Area AI meetups, conferences, and community events, pulled from publicly available sources.
- Webinars — Upcoming online sessions from Anthropic, Google, Cohere, and others.
- Academy — Curated directory of AI/ML courses, from free introductions to graduate-level programs.
- Certifications — Vendor and professional certifications relevant to AI engineering and data science.
- Programs — Fellowships, residencies, and structured learning programs in the AI space.
Who It's For
Practitioners, researchers, and builders who want to go deeper than headlines. The coverage assumes you're comfortable with technical material but don't want every post padded with introductory filler.
